This pic was snapped in November 2015 - ten years ago this month. An
well-meaning organisation called Design Network West came up with the idea to
put out a white-board and some markers and have a" ... sort of a design thinking process that the whiteboard is king, so we can
just sketch out, people come up with some ideas and see what happens " (source).
They put up their whiteboard and request for ideas on a long-empty building,
also painted cream, in the main shopping street of a town full of students who
like to drink. I can't remember if they got any real
suggestions. But by the time I took this picture, the graffiti-kids had
well-and-truly taken over., and I can't find any other pictures of it on-line.
Is this is a metaphorical view for what comes out of most public
consultation? I hope not. Maybe it just reinforces the idea that graffiti breeds graffiti.
It's certainly grimmer that most pics I'll share here. Is
there a flicker of beauty in it? Perhaps in the
noble idea that people will take such an exercise seriously.
