I'd never thought of Ireland as a surfing destination- but a visit to this beach near Sligo in September 2007 was educational.   Exciting waves, lots of surfboards - and no one here cares if it's raining.

With so many ruins in Ireland, that it's not usual to see ordinary and historic buildings in such close proximity.

Wizened sailor-status keeps on eye on the entrace to a tiny-ships museum

The wizened old sailor statue outside was full size and more, but inside everything was scaled down.

Charlottetown Backpackers Inn in 2007

Only little larger than the average suburban home, this was the Charlottetown Backpackers Inn, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada in June 2007, just a month after it opened as a Hostelling-International hostel.

With with only 20 beds, and lovely owners who who really liked what they were doing, it was a very chilled place to stay.
