CC BY 4.0 ... find out more

This crop is a mix of oats, kale, linseed, mustard, phacelia, fodder, radish and red clover. The mix provides masses of seeds of varying sizes as a winter food supply for small birds.  The crop also provides shelter as it is not harvested.

Photographed on Orkney Island, Scotland, in 2008.
